TH3D's Unified Firmware includes the ability to change your thermistor type, should you update to an aftermarket thermistor. These options are called "KNOWN_HOTEND_THERMISTOR" and "KNOWN_HOTEND_THERMISTOR_VALUE", and are located in the "Extra Features and Tweaks" section of Unified Firmware's configuration.h file as seen here:
To use this setting, you must enable both lines as seen in the image. Replace the "X" with the appropriate thermistor value.
Marlin-based firmware (such as our Unified Firmware) has several thermistor types built-in. Each thermistor is assigned a "value" that can be used to automatically load the temperature curve and resistance table of that thermistor.
The manufacturer or reseller of your thermistor should provide the Marlin value to use for that particular thermistor. You can also refer to Marlin's thermistor chart and choose your thermistor if you know the type and/or specifications.
Refer to Marlin's stock configuration.h file (also included with Unified Firmware) for the latest list of thermistor values, or click here for our article with Marlin's thermistor listings.
Most hobbyist-level 3D printers include EPCOS 100k thermistors as factory equipment, using the default thermistor value of "1". If you purchased a thermistor from TH3D, check the sales page for the thermistor you purchased for the appropriate value.
If you are unfamiliar with changing settings in our Unified Firmware, click here for our article about how to read and use the configuration.h file properly.
If you have an all-metal hot-end and need to raise the maximum printing temperature, click here for our article on the settings needed to accomplish this.
After upgrading hot-end components, you may need to PID-tune your hot-end to prevent temperature swings. We have a PID tuning guide in our Support Portal.
