When flashing new LCD firmware, you may encounter an issue similar to this…
Our Unified Firmware and Marlin firmware both include LCD firmware for the stock display as well as printer firmware for the Ender 3 V2, Ender 3 S1, and Voxelab Aquila printers. During the installation, you may find that the display becomes “corrupted” or has incorrect text or images displayed.
These color displays can be one of two (or three) different models. Please see this article for more information about how to identify which display you have: Creality Printers – DACAI and DWIN Color LCDs
Most “corruption” issues are due to the way the printer firmware works in combination with the LCD’s firmware. The LCD firmware includes images, icons, and fonts that are specifically referenced for certain functions. If the image/icon/font does not match what the printer’s firmware requests, things will look incorrect.
You must update the LCD firmware AND the printer firmware for the display to work properly. As a general rule, you should use the LCD firmware included with the firmware package that you download. Mixing-and-matching LCD vs. printer firmware can lead to similar “corruption” issues.
A recent version of Unified Firmware switched from using the standard Creality layout to using the “MarlinUI” layout. This layout provides different icons and formatting as well as a menu system more akin to the menus displayed on a 12864 display.
If you update to a newer version of Unified, you must update BOTH the printer’s firmware and the LCD firmware for this to take effect properly.
